The mission of The Comic$ Crowd is to curate the crowdfunding campaigns in the Kickstarter Comics category in order to identify and spotlight those projects most likely to yield actual comics and to yield the most high quality comics in terms of story, design, and cover/interior artwork.

The New Year brought new life to launches in the Kickstarter Comics category, with 11 total drops to open 2025, bumping the overall total number of projects back above 100 to 104. In our quest to tease out projects most likely to become actual comics and, especially, those most likely to become good comics, we can rule out a few campaigns right from the top:

The Sigma Protocols - An AI-generated campaign with no rewards and no evidence of an actual comic in production. Steer clear.
PENNY OR YOUR SOUL: 15 YEAR CELEBRATION W/ NEI RUFFINO - A pin-up book, not a comic.
SCHISM: Be Careful What You Dream - An interesting opportunity to finish the story of Jim Shooter’s Defiant universe some 30 years later, this campaign is spoiled by an impenetrable Kickstarter campaign page with text walls that are nearly illegible and images that are universally too small to actually see. Plus, $75 for 160 pages of PDF comics is…pricey.

NFCC2025- Naughty Faire - A titty cover porn mill and nothing more, with no story information or interior art samples. Not a comic.

Don't Fuck with Strippers! - An AI “enhanced” porn comic that actually gets it backwards. There’s a brief story synopsis and (non-sequential) panel art previews...but no cover images? Um…uh…huh?

Then, there’s a quartet of projects obviously launched by novice creators learning the craft. While it’s great to see new blood on the rise, these comics are rough around the edges, particularly in the areas of figure work, composition and lettering.
